After problems at the start of the season, which followed a troubled summer with much speculation about a possible move to Manchester United, Jadon Sancho has recently got back on track. In 29 matches across all completions, the 20-year-old winger already registered ten goals and 15 assists for Borussia Dortmund. Sancho has been directly involved in four BVB goals in his last three appearances. On a positive note for the Black and Yellows, Sancho is in good form and concrete rumours about a transfer to Old Trafford should not arise again in the near future for now.

The reason for this, according to The Athletic, is not even Sancho himself, but Mason Greenwood, one of the most valuable teenagers in the world. The 19-year-old is a regular starter on the right wing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, also Sancho’s best position, and as a result of his strong development was recently awarded with a contract extension until 2025 with an option for a further year. The top talent is still nowhere near Sancho’s combined figures for goals and assists, but Solskjaer obviously believes he can take the step in the future.

Greenwood is one of nine homegrown players who have featured in the first-team squad this season. Only two players in United’s young squad are currently more valuable than the England international, who has a market value of €50 million. Sancho’s market value is twice as high – but that goes hand in hand with the corresponding transfer fee demanded by Borussia.

Instead of Sancho: Manchester United want striker and defender

Most recently, it was said in English tabloids that BVB expect a departure in the summer of 2021. Man United are understood to be not willing to invest a transfer fee for which Dortmund would sell their second most valuable asset behind Erling Haaland, however. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the financial resources at the English record titleholders are also limited and signing a centre-forward and a centre-back are the priorities, according to The Athletic.
