Manchester City win Premier League - Manchester United beaten by Leicester
Manchester City have won the 2020/21 Premier League title. Manchester United gifted the title to their city rivals after losing 2-1 to Leicester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. With three games remaining, the Red Devils, who have 70 points at this stage, are no longer mathematically able to catch up with first-place Manchester City.
The Citizens have dominated the league at will this season and have collected 80 points already. For Manchester City, this is the seventh title in club history, and the fifth title since the club was bought by the Abu Dhabi Group. Under Pep Guardiola, the club has won three out of the last four titles.
Leicester's victory, in the meantime, also has consequences within the top four. The Foxes are now third with 66 points, eight points ahead of West Ham United, who are facing Brighton on Saturday. Should the Hammers fail to win that game, Leicester will be back in the Champions League for the second time in the club's history.
Man United qualified for UCL - Söyüncu match winner
For United, the result will have little impact. The Red Devils, in fact, heavily rotated the squad ahead of the game. Only Mason Greenwood started in the previous game. The striker was also one of the best players on the field and in the 15th minute equalized for United—Luke Thomas had scored for the Foxes in the tenth minute. But in the 66th minute, Caglar Söyüncü scored the winner for Leicester, securing United's city rivals the title with three games to go in the Premier League.
