Cyle Larin joins Club Brugge - Canada's record goalscorer arrives from Besiktas

Cyle Larin will soon form a partnership with his Canadian men's national team compatriot Tajon Buchanan. On Monday, Club Brugge announced that they have signed the 27-year-old on a free transfer from Besiktas. Larin's contract expired at the end of the 2021/22 season. 

For Larin, it will be the second stint in Belgium. Signed by Besiktas from Orlando City in 2018, Larin spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Zulte Waregem scoring seven goals and ten assists in 29 Jupiler Pro League games. The one year in Belgium secured him a move back to Besiktas, where Larin became a prolific goalscorer, netting 31 goals and seven assists in 83 games for the Süper Lig club. 

During that time, Larin's market value briefly hit €11.5 million, which remains his personal best. The striker's contract situation and a season in which he scored just seven goals and one assist in 29 Süper Lig games meant Larin's value has slightly dropped to just €10 million. Internationally, Larin has been a big part of Canada's successful World Cup qualification campaign—the 27-year-old is Canada's record goalscorer with 24 goals in 52 matches.
