Angulo joins Cincinnati from Independiente - 3rd most expensive signing in history
FC Cincinnati have signed Ecuadorian national team player Marco Angulo from Independiente del Valle ahead of the 2023 season. The 20-year-old has signed a contract until 2025 with a club option for the 2026 season. According to MLSSoccer.com journalist Tom Bogert, Independiente will receive $3 million (€2.83m), which is the third-highest fee paid in FC Cincinnati history (overview).
"Though he's still a young player, Marco has already won titles and competed at the full international level," FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright said in a club statement. "He is a true box-to-box midfielder with elite technical ability and a tremendous engine, and we feel his qualities should complement our midfield group. I'd like to welcome Marco to Cincinnati, and we look forward to his continued growth and development with our club."
A product of the famous Independiente del Valle academy, Angulo has played 45 games (three goals and four assists) for the Ecuadorian club. Angulo was also part of Ecuador's national team ahead of the World Cup and played 45 minutes in a friendly against Iraq (0-0) during the buildup of the tournament but ultimately was not part of the squad that traveled to Qatar.
